Information Technology Specialist, GS-2210-13

Serves as a member of, and leads, R&D Center project teams in conducting all phases of applied research projects. The projects typically evaluate and seek to improve suitability and effectiveness of various technologies to support operational Coast Guard missions. Assignments involve applying available technologies and basic management principles to adapt Information Technology Networks, computers, communications, intelligence, and navigational aid systems; geographic information systems (GIS); decision support systems for operational mission planners and command centers; risk based decision making including associated information mining; geo-positioning and display; cyber security assessment and system performance modeling. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
Conceiving, evaluating, justifying, planning and executing applied research projects. Developing products that improve the operational effectiveness of Coast Guard IT systems. Serving as a consultant and technical procurement expert to senior management in the procurement and oversight of major IT assets (software, hardware, and services). Applying analytical processes to the planning, design, and implementation of new and improved information systems to meet the business and operational requirements of customer organizations. Identifying and evaluating new technologies, systems and/or techniques to address IT technology and/or procedural shortfalls. Evaluating the capability of current IT systems to meet standards. Ensuring integration of all systems components (i.e., procedures, databases, policies, software, and hardware. Formulating and refining procedures and technical approaches to satisfy IT project objectives. Collecting and analyzing data, and providing written and verbal reports of investigation results. Reviewing directives, policies, programs, enterprise-wide functional user requirements and acquisition strategies/vehicles for program related issues to determine the impact and implications in supporting information systems. Performing resource management control including procuring IT equipment or services necessary for project execution. Serving as the leader or as a member of a field party charged with the collection and analysis of IT data or with the experimental evaluation. Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

Experience:
GS 13-Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Examples of specialized experience include:
Applying analytical processes to plan, design, and implement new and improved information systems to satisfy business requirements of customers; Ensuring integration of all IT systems components (i.e., procedures, databases, policies, software, and hardware); Evaluating the capabilities of current systems and/ or new technologies, noting their shortfalls; Performing resource management control including procuring equipment or services necessary for project execution; Reviewing directives, policies, programs, enterprise-wide functional user requirements and acquisition strategies/vehicles for program related issues to determine the impact and implications in supporting information systems. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
