Supervisory Information Technology Specialist, GS-2210-14

Serves as a Branch Chief for the R&D Center project teams in conducting all phases of applied research projects. The projects typically evaluate and seek to improve suitability and effectiveness of various technologies to support operational Coast Guard mission. Assignments involve applying available technologies and basic management principles to adapt Information Technology Networks, computers, communications, intelligence, and navigational aid systems; geographic information systems (GIS); decision support systems for operational mission planners and command centers; risk based decision making including associated information mining; geo-positioning and display; cyber security assessment and system performance modeling. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
Performing the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Supervising branch personnel; project coordinators, project managers, and project staff to include oversight, evaluation, and development of both individuals and teams within own branch. Performing pre-research project planning duties, concept development, master integration planning, and programming design for C4IT projects, taking into account feasibility and cost in areas such as ship, aviation and shore electronics, and communication IT systems. Serving as a consultant and authoritative source regarding the planning, monitoring, and administration of research projects of national significance. Identifying and evaluating new technologies, systems and/or techniques to address IT technology and/or procedural shortfalls. Applying analytical processes to the planning, design, and implementation of new and improved information systems to meet the business requirements of customer organizations. Reviewing C4ITdirectives, policies, programs, and enterprise-wide functional user requirements for program related issues to determine the impact and implications in supporting information systems. Evaluating the capability of IT current systems to meet standards. Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

Experience:
GS 14-Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Examples of specialized experience include:
Leading large scale C4IT projects and resources , including monitoring and inspecting cost, and system design and performance; Applying analytical processes to plan, design, and implement new and improved information systems to satisfy business requirements of customers; Ensuring integration of all IT systems components (i.e., procedures, databases, policies, software, and hardware); Evaluating the capabilities of current systems and/ or new technologies, noting their shortfalls; Review C4IT directives, policies, programs, enterprise-wide functional user requirements and acquisition strategies/vehicles for program related issues to determine the impact and implications in supporting information systems. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
