Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-10
This role provides installation, and repairs to a variety of complex equipment systems, makes complex and major repairs to large utility systems; Installs, modifies or repairs high pressure piping systems.Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include:
Conducting inspections of and troubleshoots piping systems, identifying irregularities and existing and/or potential problems. Assembling, installing and repairing pipes, fittings and fixtures of steam heating, water, and sanitary and storm drainage systems and low pressure air according to specifications and plumbing codes. Testing systems and equipment for proper operation, circulation, flow, pressure, and leak-free joints. Fitting pipe sections by screwing, bolting, brazing, welding, gluing, fusing, soldering, and replacing connections with new mechanical couplings. Performing a variety of welding processes including, but not limited to, manual welding processes, electric, hydrogen, and oxyacetylene welding, and gas torch cutting. Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials Use of Measuring Instruments National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience.
