You will serve the Education Program Specialist working for the Assistant Superintendent in the Admiral James M. Loy Institute for Leadership (Loy IFL) across all functional areas in implementing, assessing, coordinating, and evaluating the Coast Guard Academy Leadership Development Program (CGALDP). Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include:
- Developing actions plans to facilitate an enterprise-wide accountability structure for equity and inclusion that would be rooted in our leadership training and performance evaluation systems.- Developing and implementing the Coast Guard Academy's leadership development strategy of creating a Leader of Character by creating a community of inclusion and equity.- Advising on innovative instructional methods and pedagogies for development of curricula supportive of Engineering and Science retention goals. Trains and educates both cadets and faculty in all facets of leadership development education.- Integrating equity and inclusion improvement efforts into the leadership and program curricula of the CGALDP core and any applicable supplemental programs in partnership with Cadet Division and the Loy IFL.- Preparing presentations and briefings on studies, analyses, evaluations results, in support of the overall leadership development vision and strategy for the Academy. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Basic Requirements:
A. Degree:
that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position to be filled, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses. or B. Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position to be filled, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience must reflect the level and kind described in C below. or C. Four years of experience that demonstrated a thorough understanding of the principles and practices underlying the work of this series. This experience must have been of such character and diversity to demonstrate that the applicant possesses an understanding of the field comparable to that normally acquired through successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university. or D. At least 1 full academic year of professional teaching experience. This experience is defined as full and primary responsibility, under general supervision, for instruction of assigned students in an accredited school or institution. This includes responsibility for preparing and presenting lessons and for evaluating students' progress, including a determination of the students' success or failure according to established criteria. Serving in an assistant capacity to a professor without the authority to determine the students' success or failure to meet course requirements does not meet this criterion. Applicants at the GS-13 level must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience for the GS-13 level include:
Developing knowledge and understanding of STEM multicultural recruitment , retention, and outreach programs; Advising on innovative instructional methods and pedagogies for development of curricula supportive of Engineering and Science retention goals. Developing and updating a climate management balanced scorecard; Conducting studies and research to generate data for school improvement. A demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice through teaching, scholarly works, or professional endeavors. Expertise in, or knowledge of critical race theory, critical pedagogy, and/or other critical theories. Also, presents evidence of teaching and/or training experience in diverse groups and settings.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
